Battery is a 4-year project started in 2021 to electrify and evolve the Caterpillar fleet, released to dealer customers in May 2024 it has so far been a big success and I was part of the Cognizant team working on it from Aug 2022 - April 23 to create some of the major UX flows and architecture needed for the Customer and Dealer journeys. There were many facets to it but I was responsible for the Customer and Dealer journeys and each was considerable with 55 and 34 screens respectively in the final iteration. It will be rolled out fully to customers in Summer 26 . A project of extensive enterprise significance for Caterpillar as its a complete structural revolution of their current ways of working and transformation of their current 500 machines.26
After the user steps through and specifies the details of each machine which has lots of specifications and variables. There is a list of questions that are proposed after to specify for each machine how many batteries will be used. This is quite critical as it matters how rigorous the usage is to subscription fee offered at this stage of the journey. There are many specific questions such as Location and expected ambient temperature to gauge to what tolerance the battery will be working to and ultimately, it’s charge time and lifespan.

Scope and Solution. This was a huge project with millions being invested across centres in North America and Europe to make sure the project gets delivered across at an enterprise level. So it was a large undertaking to take on and make sure everything was delivered on time and to rigorous standards. The stakeholder team were very specialist in they own area’s so it was important to understand their background and point of view when in communication with them. This involved learning about telematics and the intricacies of power dynamics and how the telematics uses a series of electronic pulses to communicate.
